October flowers mirror the changing leaves in muted orange, green, wine, and rust. Throw in some pinks and lavenders for contrast and that’s Autumn with a capital A.

Flowering Kale has been a challenge to grow. They go in the ground during summer heat. Bugs love to chew the leaves. They grow tall and gangly. They are a lot. But, they also don’t care about frost. Finally after three seasons, I have a decent harvest of huge rose/green focal flowers.

We say goodbye to the Dahlias in October. Once a hard frost hits, the dahlias are done. Dahlias are the most popular flower during September and October. Dahlias are not easily shipped. This is a key bloom for flower farmers.

The fall palette becomes clear. Greens, purples, oranges all around.
This month, I ventured to Edgemere Senior Center for a fall flower demo. I also hosted the York Manor Garden Club of which I am a member. It’s a joy to share knowledge and flowers with friends.

This month, I’m selling Tulip Bulbs, Dried Flowers and Petal Pick-up’s.

Next month, my popular Paperwhite Kits, Amaryllis Pots and Branches in Birch will be available. Look for email notice. These often sell out.

Nothing Gold Can Stay, a favorite poem of fans of the The Outsiders book and movie. It’s a gentle reminder of precious time.
