As typical with July, the heat set in like clockwork. The first few days temperatures were in the 100’s!
Most July flowers don’t mind the heat. Strawflower is planted during the spring, it needs a cool start. The blooms are everlasting, paper like. I planted apricot and raspberry tones.
Lisianthus is a rose like, fluffy bloom, native to Texas. They have no scent and great vase life. I planted them back in March from baby plugs. This season I have light yellow, rose pink, white and apricot.
Asters are well known for their vase life. I’m thrilled to grow this variety calle Optimo. Strong stems and bright colors are perfect for summer.
Queeny Zinnias are another favorite. The muted colors of peach, lemon and lime make them perfect for soft toned arrangements. I planted seeds directly in the soil in May.

Find my flowers each week at the Kenilworth Farmers’ Market, Tuesdays 3pm-6pm. We are all undercover, under the parking pad in the back at the Shops at Kenilworth, 800 Kenilworth Drive in Towson.
On the cooler evenings, Archie and I are hitting the trails in the park. The corn shot up so fast!
