2026 My Word of the Year- Bubble

Paperwhite Kit in Bloom

Thanks to all who bought and shared my Paperwhites this season. I love getting pictures of blooms. Remember the Paperwhite bulb is a “one and done” if forced in water. The bulb needs to soil to regenerate. Amaryllis bulbs can be kept year to year.

We led our 9th Annual First Day Hike in the park near our house. An unexpected snow squall at 5am created a little bit of a challenge. The trails were slightly slippery. Happily we had a strong showing of 20+ hikers.

January is the perfect month for my birthday. I recharge and reconnect. I also look back to what worked during the last 12 months and what didn’t. This year, I decided to share some of what I’ve learned over 56 years. I did this in an Instagram post.

My favorite way to forecast my year is to follow Gretchen Rubin’s guide to “design your year”. Pick a one word theme and make a list to correspond to the year. I love a list! It’s helpful to get a visual reminder, so I googled “bubble” and found this lovely painting by Cedar Lee.

Warm January day

My tasks this month include seed inventory, ( I keep unused seed in the freezer), seed starting calendar, starting seeds. My favorite seed sources are Johnny’s Seeds, Geo/Twilly Seeds, Territorial Seed Company, Fedco Seeds, and Kitchen Garden Seeds. The catalogs are pretty to look at too.

Delphinium seedlings under cover

We had a stretch of warm days at the beginning of January. I uncovered the fall planted seedlings and peeked at the progress. Looks good so far. They are alive and holding steady until longer days start them growing again.

Tulip Bed

My tulip bed of 4,000 bulbs is looking sound. I cover the temporary bed with chicken wire to keep the squirrels out. I’m dreaming of jewel colored blooms soon.

Tulips Spring 2025

I’m excited to share that our Flower Bucket Subscriptions will be available on February 1st. It’s the perfect time to treat your future self. I offer April Tulips, May Peony and June Spring Flower buckets in three week increments. An abundance of flowers to design one big arrangement or a few smaller ones. Look for an email reminder! With limited availability, these sell out quick.

Additionally, to forecasting our year, Archie and I are getting our walks in and listening to books. One of my 2026 goals is to move 26 minutes a day and read 26 books. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ˜Š

PS- I chose “Bubble” because I want to be light and effervescing, keeping soft edges, not rigid, allowing thoughts and ideas to bubble up!ย

A poem shared with me this month, the imagery if perfect.
