The heat is on along the Mid Atlantic Coast. Multiple days in the 90’s with high humidity. It’s a time when folks in our area head to the beach!

It’s also the time that Lisianthus blooms. Also known as “lisi” this flower is native to the Midwest. Lisianthus loves the heat and doesn’t mind a little frost either. Planted in the ground in mid-March, they take four long months to make the most beautiful rose-like flowers.

Asters are another July flower. The bloom is triggered when the days start to shorten; soon after the summer solstice, the asters start to bud. This is a China Aster, Optimo Purple. Customers think they are dyed purple, nope, it’s real!

More July blooms include Strawflower and Zinnia. I love the orange, yellow colors of peach and apricot types.

Reminder! Summer is the time to visit Celadon Hill. I’ll be hosting two Flower Happy Hours in August. Wander the flowers, take a few pics and fill your cup with flowers. Click here for more information.

Bring your little one to the Children’s Flower Hour. Quick story, scavenger hunt and then cut your own flowers. Only two Friday mornings in August, click here for more information.

There’s a lull during the summer heat in the flower farming world. I’m grateful for the beach and much-loved family time.

I truly appreciate the helpers that are watching over the flowers and Archie! 💚🐶
