June starts off with a soft palette of color. Pink, blue, yellow, green, and white blooms explode onto the scene. Campanula is a fan favorite. The cup-shaped blooms last up to two weeks in a vase!

By mid-month, the colors have taken on a deeper tone. Golden yellow, dark green, wine, and coral. My sunflowers were delayed and fortunately, my friend Beth at Belvedere Farm had some at the ready.

One of my favorites this season is peach yarrow. Light peachy orange flowers age to yellow. Yarrow is a perennial that is easy to grow. For the best vase life, wait to see the pollen before cutting.

By the end of the month, the Snapdragons and Scabiosa are stealing the show.

Another fun flower in June is Feverfew. It’s daisy like and has a chamomile scent. One variety of Feverfew has a double bloom called Tetra.

On June 21st, summer kicked in as scheduled. As I write this, the heat index has been in the 100s for days. For me, the summer schedule is early morning harvests, long afternoon breaks, and then back outside in the evening.

The best place to find locally grown flowers is at the farmer’s market. I’m at Overlea Farmer’s Market every other Saturday from 8:30am-12:30pm and Kenilworth Farmer’s Market every Tuesday 3:00pm-6:00pm.

I’m excited to share Wednesday Flowers on my website store. These are flowers harvested on Mondays for the Tuesday Kenilworth Farmer’s Market. A mini bucket of loose stems to be arranged by you. Wednesday Flowers must be picked up from Celadon Hill on Wednesday morning or evening due to the heat. Limited quantities.

Hurray! Visits to Celadon Hill will begin in August. I’ll be posting dates for Children’s Flower Hour and Adult Happy Hour on July 1st. Check back, these dates fill up quickly.

Archie has been chasing rabbits and barking at chickens. Raising a ruckus on the hill.
Thank you for following! Stay cool, flower friends.Â
