Red Lion Amaryllis

My Red Lion Amaryllis are a welcome site during the first gray weeks of March.

Hellebore

Outside, Hellebore are pushing through the semi frozen ground. They love the cold winters and thrive covered with ice and snow.

Hellebore

I stop my impulse to cut them and bring inside. The trick with hellebore are to wait until the seed pod forms. This ensures a long vase life and straight stems.

Mid-month, I started planting cold hardy annuals outside. Lisianthus, stock, feverfew, rudbeckia and statice went into the ground. Here’s a video I made about the Lisianthus, they are so tiny!

My annual plant seedling sale is here. Every year I sow a few more seedlings for you. These are the same flowers I use in my bouquets. Zinnia, ageratum, cosmos, celosia, marigolds and more. Order now and pick up around Mother’s Day when it’s safe to plant outside. Enjoy your own cutting garden!

I’m dedicated to inviting more birds to my space. We added a third bluebird house this season. Safely away from the other two existing boxes. Eastern Bluebirds need nests to be 300 feet between boxes and proximity to a grassy field or woodland.

Archie and I feel liberation as we walk the back field on brown earth and not snow! The extra hour of daylight means we catch the sunset too.

I relate to the poem below and its Black Bear rising from sleep. I am ready to come down the mountain!
