Spring is here, and all the colors. After a very cool spring, the tulips started blooming the first week of April.

I harvest tulips by pulling the whole stem with bulb from the ground. Then discard the bulb and floppy leaf. Tulips are crated and wrapped for the cooler. It’s a busy three weeks, harvesting a few times a day.

Back in November, we planted 4000 bulbs. After a cold winter, I love taking pictures of the final product.

A new favorite tulip is “Finola”. They are double tulips, starting creamy white and then fully open with streaks of rosy pink.

And then there’s this. Avignon Parrot Tulip, as big as my hand when fully open. That orange color!

The giant snowdrops aka Leucojum Gravetye were perfect for a white flower accent.

April is a busy seeding month. It’s time to start the warm annuals, like sunflowers and zinnia. They do well outside when nighttime temperatures are consistently in the 50s or above.
In other news, my foot ran into a rock in the field and I broke my toe. Crocs are my new favorite shoe!

Please be sure to look for our flowers at Schoolhouse Fallston, Homelands Market, and Harvard Antiques Gallery.
I’m at Kenilworth Farmer’s Market every Tuesday under the parking pad, 3pm-6pm. This is a great grower-only market with vegetables, fruit, dairy, meats and more.

As April ends, Lily of the Valley begins. Look for them under the shade of a tree. Breathe in the glorious aroma of these little beauties.

Happy Spring! Archie is loving being outside. Enjoy the best of the season and thank you for following!Â
